What did John Glenn see? : Image of the Day
50 years ago today John Glenn climbed atop a Mercury-Atlas rocket and became the first American to orbit the Earth. Glenn had this to say about the flight:
I'm not sure what you can say about a day in which you see four beautiful sunsets in one day.
NASA's Earth Observatory Image of the Day captures his flight with one of those fantastic early-space age photos of the Earth from near orbit. In this case, the area surrounding Cape Canaveral.
