Yucca Mountain is a place steeped in debate over its own existence ever since the late 80s. Even though the location may never actually be put to use, many years of useful research was completed for the future of nuclear waste storage. BLDGBLOG has an excellent interview with a geoscientist on the project about how Yucca Mountain would store nuclear fuel if it was given the go-ahead and the processes of finding a site to sealing off the chamber completely. Longer than your average article, but definitely worth the read.
