Blue Whales Are Already Big Enough

I love discussions about limits for systems, like this post from Carl Zimmer about the size of blue whales. They're not getting any bigger but there was clearly an evolutionary path that favored these whales getting larger and larger until they became their current size.

Scientists at the University of British Columbia have hypothesized that their size is closely related to how the whales feed - diving towards krill populations and repeatedly straining large amounts of water. I won't give away too much because it's nice to read the entire thing but deriving understanding from all this complexity is so much to read about! ]
