The Hubble Servicing Mission

Two brilliant chunks of information from the NYTimes about the Hubble servicing mission set to launch on May 11th. The first, an article about John Grunsfeld, considered to be the expert on servicing the Hubble. The article follows the mission since the last replacement gyros were installed in 1999, through a possible cancellation in 2004, delays in September of 2008 and to today. It's an interesting look at what might be the most niche job out there.

And the second; the usual excellent flash infographic on the parts schedules to be replaced and repaired on the Hubble. It's always good to know that some astronauts have a soft side:

"Hubble needs a hug," said Dr. Grunsfeld, "and we're ready to go."
