Science Plotting for the Mac

MacResearch has revealed their secret project for this years WWDC: the open source Core Plot framework! OS X has a number of Apple-supported APIs that developers can use to easily create components that mesh well with the rest of the operating system, such as Core Graphics and Core Data. Occasionally this moniker is extended to more specific tasks, such as the mechanism for using the GPS functionality on the iPhone, Core Location. Core Plots is intended to be a framework for creating beautiful and functional plots via Cocoa on Mac OS X.

Core Plots is only starting to be developed but MacResearch is hoping to have a number of Code-a-thons during WWDC where Core Plots can get into a usable state. Hopefully it'll be as powerful and way more intuitive than GNUPlot!
