Constellation Spacecraft, Comparatively

The NYTimes article on the new Constellation program spacecraft and some nifty breakout views of their components.

Their timeline suggests that we had no functioning spacecraft from the retirement of the Saturn V in 1973 until the Shuttle launched in 1981. I've heard bits and pieces about the reduction of funds for NASA after we went to the moon the first couple times but this has really highlighted what was going on then. It would surely make for some interesting research...
